Liuyang Fireworks Production Techniques

Liuyang fireworks, a geographical indication product protected at the national level and a local specialty of Liuyang, are celebrated for their exquisite craftsmanship, brilliant colors, and reliable quality, bearing the illustrious title of “Liuyang Fireworks Shock the World.”

The production of Liuyang fireworks boasts a long history. With traditional craftsmanship, artisans use handmade paper, potassium nitrate, sulfur, carbon powder, and red clay, all of which are raw materials locally obtained. The production involves a total of 12 processes and 72 steps. In 1995, Liuyang was recognized as the “Hometown of Fireworks in China”by the state. In 2006, the production techniques of Liuyang fireworks were included in the first list of national intangible cultural heritage items. Now, Liuyang fireworks have become a distinctive symbol of Hunan culture.
